I just received a set of Blue Garland China by Johann Haviland and marked Bavaria Germany. All pieces are in excellent condition. Included is service for 12 minus one cup, as well as the following serving pieces: covered vegetable, open vegetable, creamer and sugar bowl, large platter, and a coffee server. A place setting includes the following pieces: dinner plate, cup and saucer, fruit/dessert bowl, bread and butter, and salad plate which is large enough to double as a luncheon plate. There are 8 coffee cups and 3 tea cups. I am taking off $10 for the missing cup which can be purchased from Replacements.com . Total price is $340 for this set. I also have extra serving pieces including a coffee server, platter, covered vegetable, and 3 round vegetable bowls. Fall Brings New Decor to Aunt Jennie's Attic

Almost every day brings new items to Aunt Jennie's Attic. Some of the latest arrivals include these hens and a rooster candy dish, as well as a Murano Rooster made in Italy. They are priced from $90 for the rooster on the left, which has the red Murano sticker still attached, to $12.50 for the small blue hen on nest in the foreground. The rooster on the right has already found a new home this week. The second picture illustrates a new collection of gray graniteware. Pictured are a coffee pot and colander for $25 each and a cup for $7. Summer is winding down and time for school is fast approaching. Despite the unrelenting heat and lack of rain, Aunt Jennie's Attic had a great July! Ayr Days was a huge success and we were pleased with the vendor turn out for our very first Ayrlooms Vintage Market on the 23rd of July. In spite of having much better July than last year, Aunt Jennie's Attic is still overflowing with great antique and collectible items for your home, including china, collector plates, glassware and many nicely refinished pieces of furniture as well as primitives, pottery, and giftware. More Treasures in the Attic

We have already had two "trash to treasure hunts" at Aunt Jennie's Attic in May, and another is planned for the near future. You can get a group together and we will schedule you in some evening. We will look for items for specific purposes, gather and share our finds, and take pictures to post on Aunt Jennie's Attic facebook page. (Check out what we did last week!)

The picture on the right above is a themed seaside display. It contains several pieces of blue/aqua Fenton art glass along with shells and glass marbles and a candle to go along with the picture in the background. Ayrlooms Marketplace a new Ayr Days Feature

Plans are underway for the first annual Ayrlooms Marketplace on July 23rd, 2011. It will be held in conjunction with Ayr Days and Smokin' in the Ayr. The focus of this market will be on antiques, flea market items, and junktique, or items repurposed from what some might call "junk." In other words, I would call it "trash to treasure." The committee is looking for vendors who sell antiques, repurposed items, and the raw materials for repurposing, such as old doorknobs, hinges, beadboard, hooks, insulators, pieces of old woodwork, doors, windows, old furniture, ironwork, lamp parts, wire baskets, architectural salvage, and more. Plans are underway for entertainment for all ages, good food, a parade, car, motorcycle and tractor shows, and a 1970's reunion. Contact me at auntjennies@iowatelecom.net for more information.

Purses for the Pool New Fundraiser for the Mount Ayr Aquatic Center

For the next 2 months Aunt Jennie's Attic will be the headquarters for Purses for the Pool, featuring new and gently used purses for sale. The proceeds from the sale of these purses will go to the Aquatic Center Fund Drive to raise money for a new Aquatic Center in Mount Ayr, IA. Purses will be priced from $3.00 to $15.00. About 3 dozen purses are offered for sale now, with more purses arriving each week. Stop in and take a look! I will post more pictures on this blog soon.

I had planned to do a little hair work and change of clothes but he arrived early so that didn't work out. So it looks like just a "normal" day at the store, whatever that is. Aunt Jennie's Attic Ready for a New Year!

I couldn't believe it has been almost a year since I posted to this blog, but it's true. Most of my time has been devoted to facebook lately, but when I checked on my Google rankings there were not many links when I googled my name. So I am needing to boost my internet presence. A very snowy two days have given me some time to look through magazines and try to figure out some trends for the new year. The country look is still popular, although it is often more sophisticated, and a little less primitive. There will always be those who love primitive decor, though, and Aunt Jennie's Attic continues to be a resource for some very interesting and unusual country primitive pieces, such as a half porch post, old hampers, baskets, and tools, wooden bowls, and kitchen utensils.
Colors that appear most often include several that are shown in this picture, including shades of green, browns, yellows and deep red or rust. The unusual green pottery bowl sells for $35, the Autumn Leaf coffee server is priced at $65, and the large ceramic roosters for $40/ pr.
Splashes of white, pink and turquoise may appear combined with chocolate brown or sandy tones for those who want to bring the coastal look to their home. I am not sure how much this will appeal to southern Iowa residents...maybe for my Sun Valley Lake friends. Let me know if you like this look and I will get some items in this line.
Two new lines that have been added to Aunt Jennie's Attic this year include Willow Tree figures and WoodWick candles and fragrance products. Hull Bow Knot Basket B25-6 1/2 for Sale at Aunt Jennie's Attic

This lovely Hull pottery basket is a new addition to the inventory at Aunt Jennie's Attic. The pattern name is Bow Knot. It has a production flaw, a crack on the right side near the first notch. It should be worth about $350, however, due to the flaw, I am offering it at a price of $175. As you can see, the crack is not very apparent except at close range. This is still a great piece for display or for holding a flower arrangement. Great item to perk up your house after a long, dreary winter. Valentine greetings from Aunt Jennie's Attic. Here are some of the valentine decorations and gifts available for your February celebration. We also have sweet treats such as cashew crunch, chocolate-covered toffee bars and more. We also have a new collection of vintage valentines that could be framed, displayed, or scattered around as part of your holiday decor. They are from the 1930's and 40's, exchanged by classmates in the Mount Ayr, IA area. They are so cute! If you live in the area, come in and take a look! I am experimenting with a type of antique and collectible online mall, so please go to the Cyberattic website and look for my dealer page. Click on the catalogue section and it will show you what I have entered so far. It all takes time, but hopefully I will be able to put several hundred items on the website when all is said and done...and hopefully, too, it will increase sales. Here's a sample of one of the vintage mechanical valentines.

Everyone seems to be really tired of winter, and although it is just the first part of February, people are already looking for spring decorations and different candle scents, so I am trying to transform the shop a little early this year to get rid of the winter blahs. A weekend trip to Nell Hill's in KS leads me to believe that colors for spring include black and white or ivory, with a splash of chartreuse for accent, Other colors in evidence were brick reds and golds and mustard colors along with a sage green. There were lots of birds, bunnies, and garden items with lots of faux greenery...in other words, nature themes are in, both in rustic white metal and iron accents. I am working on my displays this week so more photos will be forthcoming. For now, here's a vintage valentine.

The cost is $8.00 for each ornament in a gift box. Small acrylic stands, good for year-round display, are also available at $2.00 each, and shipping is $2 for the first ornament and 1.50 for each additional ornament. Profits from the sale of these ornaments will be used to buy a new speaker/sound system for the Mount Ayr square. As I write this post, Christmas is just 2 months away. It doesn't seem possible. Yet, boxes of decorations and gifts along with vintage consigned Christmas ornaments and other decorating items arrive in Aunt Jennie's Attic several times a week. Preparations are underway for our Holiday Open House on November 13th and 14th. Hours are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. I'll be glad to stay later on Friday if there are customers who can't be there before 5. Email me...

As usual there will be an abundance of snowmen, quilted Christmas runners, potholders, birds, and hundreds of ornaments, as well as great gift ideas. I have restocked my lighted mantle with crystal items, candlesticks and ornaments. Wispy greenery garlands and berry garlands and many matching wreaths are also in the works. And remember, Aunt Jennie's Attic also has many non-antique items...pottery, metal kitchen utensils, placemats and woven rugs, Amish baskets, and much more. Look for some new pictures next week.

I just received a new batch of candles in white enamelware mugs with lids. Fragrances include cinnamon bun, Grandma's kitchen, cranberry spice, pumpkin spice and ginger spice, Northern woods, creme brulee, and many more. You have to smell them to believe the wonderful fragrance. You don't even have to burn them...just take off the lid! I think I have mentioned them before, either here or in my blog at www.auntjenniesattic.com.

A photographer from Washington, D.C. has sent me some very interesting advertising cabinet photographs taken by the Hayes and Schroyer photo studio in Mount Ayr, Iowa in the late 1800's and early 1900's. If you find any such photos in your collections, please email me at the above address. Some of these photos are advertisements for various businesses in which ladies adorn their dresses with items that the business sells, such as making designs using dried peas or beans attached to the skirt, wearing necklaces of strung cranberries or crackers to advertise a grocery store. Also if you have any information about the Snyder's Grocery and Hardware store that was in business in the early days of Ringgold County, or if you have any information about Lena and Esther Dunning, early residents of the county, we would be thrilled to hear about it. Later in the week, I will post a picture of these lovely ladies and you can see for yourself what early advertising was like. Stay tuned....

Selling Vintage Buttons

Many unusual vintage buttons from the 1930'w and 40's have been added to Aunt Jennie's Attic in recent weeks. I'd like to have a little input from collectors about how to sell them. Are collectors more likely to buy buttons in like groups, such as a group of 6 red flower buttons that are alike, or would they rather buy a collection of 6 different flower buttons as a group? If buttons are grouped by style, what are some popular styles and materials? Button collectors and sellers, I need your advice. Roseville, Hull, and more Arrive At Aunt Jennie's Attic

Wow! Aunt Jennie's Attic has received more than 30 boxes of great new consignment items in the last week, from pink flamingos to Roseville and Hull pottery. We have a collection of various bird figurines (some musical), an owl collection, limited edition prints by Carol Ward, 150 ladies' handkerchiefs, antique shoemaker's metal lasts, collector plates, doilies, and so much more. I am in the process of pricing, and will put out items as my space allows. If you are in the shop and don't see what you are looking for, please don't hesitate to ask. It might still be in the processing area. It's almost June, and hopefully that will bring travelers and shoppers galore. The Mount Ayr square is just 3 blocks off Highway 2. Blaino's Place, as promised, is the newest booth at Aunt Jennie's Attic. Blaino's Place, in the lower level of the store, is filled to the brim with antiques and primitives of all sorts, from horse-related items to enamelware and crocks, to vintage furniture, old boxes and much more. This rocker is an example of the furniture items offered for sale, along with a very unique bustle chair, no doubt from the 1800's when such items were a necessity for ladies. You will also find collections of buttons, REAL WOOD Tinker Toys, dominoes, croquet, and vintage kitchen utensils from early days. Items in this booth change often, so it is a good idea to check regularly for new additions.

New in the attic today, a WWI medicine kit compactly stored in its own little box. Sale price to be determined. Also received a collection of many interesting rocks...some agates, petrified wood and more, some marbles, etc. I need to make my picture smaller and included in the blog space, but haven't figured that out yet...I need help.
